Ultrasound.: Ultrasound should be used to detect fetal heart tones this early in pregnancy - not doptones. If an experienced prenatal sonographer has looked transvaginally and cannot see fetal heart tones at true 7 weeks (meaning previously ultrasonically confirmed intrauterine viable twin pregnancy with correct dates) then miscarriage is diagnosed - otherwise, it is time for a viability scan! take folic acid!
