Can be: When you flex your neck. The thyroid gland is pressed against the skin of the neck making it more noticeable. So you can see the outline of the gland.

POSSIBLLY: You cannot see your thyroid except through the skin. Depending on your neck size and the size of your thyroid, this could be normal, however if you have swelling either on both sides or one side you should have it checked by your doctor.
