Prolonged Heartburn: Please make sure you are seen by a gastroenteropolgist... The ppis can relieve the heartburn but you canstill have serious issues like barrett's espohagus or even cancer.

Undertreated: Sounds like your reflux might be undertreated. I would let your friendly gastrointestinal doctor know about the current symptoms you are having.
