Depesinds on primary: Depends on primary site and spread to other organs, some like mesothelioma will not be good, isolated plural effusion from breast responds well to chemotherapy.Rarely cured.

Inadequate info: Life expectancy depends on the nature of the underlying malignancy, its extent & rate of spread, involvement of other body organs, age of patient etc. It varies from person to person due to these & other factors. Discuss with your doctor how your clinical condition relates to this.

See below: If there is a pleural effusion present, then that means the cancer is metastatic. For lung cancer, typically life expectancy is around 6 months. I'm not sure for other cancers as I don't treat them, but I suspect 12 months or less.
