A member asked:

Why does a hiatal hernia cause a more pronounced heart beat sometimes but not all the time?

It doesn't: Any association you feel is present between your heat beat and a hiatal hernia is purely coincidental.

Comes and goes: Hiatal hernia is when the stomach slides up into the chest. Since it can slide in and out, symptoms can be intermittent. Whether it not it is causing the more pronounced heartbeat is unknown. Could be a primary heart rhythm problem as well.
