Seasonal allergies: Claritin, available otc as generic loratadine, is a nonsedating antihistamine, often used for seasonal allergic rhinitis. It is good medicine with low incidence of side effects, thus made available otc quite sometimes ago. It's also sold in combo with decongestant, claritin-d, for those having much trouble with nasal congestion. If u have trouble and Loratadine not adequate, consult doc. Good luck.

Claritin (loratadine) can it be used instead of benedryl?

Yes: Both are antihistamines. Claritin lasts 24 hours and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) lasts 3-4 hours. If Claritin works to control your symptoms you can use that daily instead of benadryl (diphenhydramine).
