KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE: I am a tmj/tmd specialist, but I am also a tmj/tmd patient. Until i really got a grasp of what TMJ is and trying several therapies, i will attest to the efficacy of the use of TMJ oral appliances (orthotics.) the appliances work, but there are many different types of orthotics, and no one appliance works for every individual. Sometimes it is a process that the involves trial and error.

YES!: This is a preferred method of treatment for many doctors. I use a custom orthotic(splint) to diagnose and relieve the pain associated with TMJ issues. Frequent splint adjustments to keep up with the dimensional changes associated with the healing process of the joints. Many patients subsequently undergo orthodontic treatment to finalize their occlusion into a more stable and comfortable bite.
