Can't tell: The tempomandibular joint can make a person miserable and there's no predicting how long it will last. There are folks who know how to treat this and i'm not one of them; a variety of measures including those that keep you from grinding your teeth at night can help, as can more intensive interventions. Good luck.

It's hard to say. : Tmj is something you may have temporarily or may have for a lifetime - but it goes in spurts, or "episodes". One episode will typically only last a day or so, or in severe cases a week or two at the very most! however, you may only suffer one episode in your lifetime or may continue to suffer episodes for your whole life - you may have episodes once a year, once a month, etc. - it's hard to say.
