Depends : On the surgeon. Most will receive pain medication immediately after surgery though and IV with a pump that can provide pain medications when you push a button. You can only receive so much so pushing the button many time cannot deliver too much medication. After a day or so this will be stopped and oral pain meds will be started. Normally this may be oxycodone or hydrocodone.
