Varies: Depending on the pathology, the amount of pain, and the amount of conservative treatment tried. Significant increase in the 50-59 year age group, still average age over 60.

Avg age 63: Realistically, there is no "normal" age to have a total knee replacement. Although the problem of knee arthritis becomes more common with age, not everyone will develop arthritis that will need surgery. Also recognize that many patients with knee arthritis can be successfully treated without surgery, via medications, physical therapy, and injections.

HTO, UKR, TKR option: The younger the patient, the more we like to try and find an alternate procedure to a TKR (total knee replacement). High tibial osteotomy(, HTO), and even more so- Unicompartmental knee replacement (UKR) options are being utilized to improve function in the younger adults. When all else fails or becomes non-feasible, a TKR can be a option even in the mid 30's. Discuss ALL options with your surgeon

Knee replacement pain after one year is this normal?

Yes; pain is common: While the goal of knee replacement is pain relief, complete or absolute pain relief is not the norm. Most patients have some degree of discomfort or a reminder that the knee has been replaced even after years; it is seldom felt to be completely "normal." however, more severe pain, after one year, is unusual and probably warrants further evaluation.

What is normal recovery after having a partial knee replacement?

Hopefully quick: Partial knee replacements tend to progress at a much faster rate than a total. Often times, within one-two weeks, you should be getting around quite well without much pain.

1-2 months: Full function and range of motion can be restored as soon as 2 weeks, but full strength may take more than 2 months.
