Heat cold exercise: A hot or cold pack to the area may feel good and lessen the pain (be careful not to use extreme temperatures; do not burn yourself). Alternate the temperature or use the most soothing. Try to do light exercise (like walking or walking in a pool (if you have access). Be as normal as possible, but avoiding uncomfortable positions (usually sitting is one of these).

If a smoker, stop as this increases rate of spine degeneration. Local heat applications, stretching exercises under a hot shower, otc medication as needed. Stretching: Many times acute sciatic pain will resolves after stretching the area abit. The muscles will loosen up and help resolve pain. If not, then consider further imaging studies to see which exact nerve in your spine is getting pinched for further treatment options.
