Is it possible to break a bone and not know you have a broken bone?

Yes: Usually a fracture causes significant pain and swelling, alerting the patient and physician to the problem. Sometimes, though, fractures can be missed on radiographs and go undiagnosed. Other imaging studies can be helpful in those instances.
