Rare : Injuries to the sciatic nerve in the leg directly are rare and usually due to penetration injury like knife injuries. Sometimes, post op from hip replacement or hip dislocation and or pelvis fracture, the sciatic nerve can be injured. Disc herniations in the lower back can compress a spinal nerve that becomes part of the sciatic nerve.
