Sciatiic damage: Sciatic nerve damage can occur from a number of different conditions. Most commonly disc herniations can result in damage to the nerve roots coming out of the spinal cord that give rise to the sciatic nerve. Other more peripheral problems can also cause sciatic nerve injury such as piriformis syndrome. The injury can become permanent if the underlying cause is not identified and treated.
