A member asked:

How much vitamin d should a male with osteopenia take?

1000 IU is average: Before deciding what dose of vitamin d to take it is necessary to measure serum 25ohd. If level is low large doses are given to correct the deficiency over 1-2 months. If the level is normal 1000 iu daily is usually adequate but more may be required in obese men.

Vitamin D : Has a normal range which in most labs is 30-100 ng/ml. One should have serum levels tested to know what their level is and the amount to supplement. One should not assume the amount they are taking is sufficient as it might not be. One should also be careful with mega dosing as vitamin d can be toxic if taken too much.
