Survival is possible: The best way to assure a baby has a good start is for him/her to be delivered when all the parts are ready. Delivery at 31 weeks is almost a guarantee that baby will need to be in an ICU nursery for 4 or more weeks, much of that time spent with a ventilator or other assisted breathing. Most will survive & lead healthy lives, some will have handicaps, some never make it home.
