Kidney Disease: "diffuse" means all over the kidney, "parenchymal" means the solid part of the kidney that filters the liquid waste products out of the blood, and "disease" means something is wrong. Typically "diffuse parenchymal disease" means an overall medical problem with the kidney, such as diabetic nephropathy, or post-streptococcal nephritis. In the pediatric world we use this term slightly differently.
