No: Board certification for any medical speciality requires a 4 year college degree, a medical degree (which is an md or do), then completion of an accredited internship and residency program. These post-college programs take 4 years for medical school, 1 year of internship, then 3 years for residency. After that, there may be additional training, called a fellowship, for a medical specialty.

No: One must finish 4 years of medical school, and then complete a 3 year residency in internal medicine to be eligible to take the internal medicine board exam. Beyond this, many internal medicine physicians also take additional fellowships for subspecialization in fields such as hematology/oncology, cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, etc.

No. : It is highly unlikely that someone can become board-certified while still in medical school. Board certification in the United States requires three things. 1. Graduation from medical school. 2. Advanced hands on training in a specific field of medicine by way of either a residency or fellowship (or both). 3. Passing the board certification examination in the same specific field of medicine.
