Very early, depends: This really depends on what you want to see. Some need an ultrasound early, like at week 8, to confirm a viable pregnancy. At that point, you may see a teeny "walnut" as my wife calls it, with a beating heart. The classic ultrasound is done at 20 weeks, with most parts present. That's when they typically tell the sex of the baby.
