Electric vs manual: Sonicare or braun oral b are in my opinion the better powered brushes. They are also far better for patients with dexterity problems. Stroke victims, cp, all need the extra movements that these can provide.

Sonicare: Most of our staff use these happily. One way to make gripping a manual toothbrush easier is to drill a hole in a tennis ball and insert the brush handle tightly into it. Arthritic hands find that much easier than gripping a small handle.
