Options: Without a history of trauma, it could be a form of arthritis. I would recommend evaluation by either a rheumatologist or podiatrist.

I don't think : Your marital status is related to your current ankle situation. I think a podiatric or orthopedic evaluation would be helpful. Your foot type i.E if your ankle pronates a lot may be a factor, testing range of motion etc would be important, examine for spurs or cartiledge erosion of the talar roof (bone in ankle) may all be of value. Once a diagnosis is established a tx can be recommended.
