A member asked:

Are there significant long term dangers for a young person who smokes 2-3 years but then quits before 25?

Quit anytime: There's never a bad time to stop smoking, and the benefits are amazing. At 5 years after quitting, your risk of stroke is back to normal, and at 15 years, your risk of death from all causes is about the same as someone who has never smoked. Bottom line, for a young person, there is great benefit to quitting smoking - you can still live a long and healthy life!

Lo risk if stay quit: There's no safe level of tobacco use, period. The health risks climb the longer a person smokes, and particularly if one smokes at a young age. But the sooner one quits, the better all around. The benefits of stopping are huge, and go up over time. Bottom line - stay off and you'll be healthier and have more years to enjoy!
