Possibly: Crestor ia a more potent statin. Typically one will see more HDL elevation and tg lowering than with zocor (simvastatin) at a lower dose.

Yes, significantly: Crestor (rosuvastatin) response typically equal to about 2.5x’s more mg zocor/day, in terms of low density lipoprotein response, along with better total & large-high density lipoprotein response. Also better tg response. Crestor (rosuvastatin) only statin to show some plaque regression; asteroid trial. Effect much more obvious with NMR particle test than cholesterol tests. Zetia greatly augments LDL response all statins.

More Potent: Depending on an individuals medical history, examination, other laboratory values, history of medication tolerance and additional medical conditions there are several options for addressing abnormal lipid values. When statin therapy is considered one issue is the potency of the medication. Crestor is a more potent statin than zocor (simvastatin) and will influence lipids to a greater degree.

Not better-different: Both are statins, and work through the same mechanism to lower cholesterol. Crestor (rosuvastatin) is a more potent statin than zocor ( now generic as simvastatin). Crestor (rosuvastatin) is more hydrophilic (water friendly), and Simvastatin more lipophilic (fat friendly). Crestor (rosuvastatin) may also have a better drug-drug interaction profile but there are no head to head studies comparing one to the other with regard to heart dz.
