Probably not: Though rapid weight loss may worsen fatty liver in some, in the long run it is likely the most beneficial thing you can do.

Common liver disease: Fatty liver is when fat is deposited in the liver. It can be caused by chronic moderate to severe alcohol consumption and some medications. The most common form though is related to obesity, elevated triglycerides, and diabetes. It can lead to cirrhosis over time. It is generally an asymptomatic disease.

A 38-year-old female asked:
Losing 10 lbs a month is that too fast for a fatty liver and if so how do I slow it down?

You're doing great!: 1-3 pounds per week is generally a healthy rate of weight loss. Eat right (minimize fats; supplement fibers), exercise, and you should be fine. Roughly for every 3000 calories you lose, you drop a pound (that's 400 calories a day). Shoot for a reasonable weight goal in a reasonable time period--but consult your doctor if weight loss is involuntary or can't be explained.
