500-1,000 mg...: But word of caution, you will get flushing and burning w/o the delayed release form. Aspirin can attenuate this. Niacin lowers triglycerides and raises hdl, while lowering LDL and making it more large and buoyant (good). Unfortunately, Niacin also makes you more Insulin resistant, so a double-edged sword. If you take it, take delayed-release, @ bedtime, w/ enteric coated aspirin.

Depends.: Niacin has been used in doses as low as 500mg or less and as high as 3000mg or more. However, Niacin can cause both bothersome side effects such as flushing and worrisome side effects such as liver toxicity; Niacin should always be prescribed and monitored by a physician.
