Take Motrin: Take Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen products to help with mild pain. If pain is very bad, you may need stronger pain medicines that need to be prescribed by a doctor. You will also need antibiotics if it is an actual strep infection. Best bet is to start with Motrin every 6 hours and don't try to eat--drink shakes and gatorade until swelling is reduced.
