Dipstick: Similar to a ph or chlorine test strip for testing swimming pool water, a nicotine test strip is placed in a saliva sample where it reacts to cotinine, a compound produced as a byproduct of nicotine metabolism. It will indicate different levels of cotinine suggesting the amount of nicotine exposure.
