Describe: Are you feeling sensitivity at the gum/root junction? Are you feeling pain in the root tip areas? Need more information. If you are feeling pain from exposed root surfaces, your dentist can talk to you about options for covering those areas or applying desensitizing agents. If it is in the root tips, see your dentist, you need to have an x-ray to rule out possible periodontal or tooth abscesses.

One thought: One consideration which a dentist can examine for in person is ab fractions...This can cause sensitivity as well as take away from the beauty of your smile. With recession the enamel, which protects the root of the tooth is not there to protect you fom hot and cold exposure. Many times a simple white filling can resolve the situation. See a dentist.

Bone loss: Exposure of the root surface from bone loss can cause sensitivity and pain. Sometimes crooked teeth will cause bone loss around few teeth. Gum disease such as gingivitis or periodontitis can cause loss of bone around the teeth as well.

Recession: It is not uncommon for the gums to recede away from the teeth from a number of causes. The most common are plaque and calculus buildup, improper brushing, gum disease and excessive occlusal forces. Once the gums shrink away, it exposes the root surfaces of the teeth that are not covered by enamel which acts as a thermal and stimulus barrier. See your dentist for an accurate diagnosis & treatment.
