See you MD: You may need a blood pregnancy test. There are many different reasons for missing a period. Your md will ask about your history. Age , medical conditions like thyroid disease and diabetes, life stress, strenuous exercise, and eating disorders are a few things which can affect the menses. A blood pregnancy test may be considered.

Blood test for HCG: You may get a blood test for HCG to settle the issue. If you miss your period by 4-5 days, do a home pregnancy test. If the result is negative repeat the test 4-5 days later unless you get a period by then. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully.
