About 6 hours: Ativan (lorazepam) is a form of valium. The real name is Lorazepam - one of the benzodiazepines. It is a very common mediation for anxiety, and is used for seizures. The duration of action varies, but is usually several hours. Some patients need repeated doses up to 3 or 4 times per day. Most patients become used to it over time and have to have increasing doses for effect or need to change.

Ativan (lorazepam) 1mg: Ativan (lorazepam) 1mg if used as prescribed should be okay. Its half-life is 8-24 hours. For your body to be at steady state with this, you and your doctor might consider breaking this 1mg into 2, .5mg doses spread out in your day. Even more important, though: what else are you doing to help your anxiety? Meditation, tai chi, qi gong, psychotherapy, etc may be extremely helpful & not add another drug.
