Step 1: Decide, then: Stopping requires 2 tasks. Overcoming nicotine addiction, and a deeply ingrained habit. Physical withdrawal lasts ~3 wks, and many get past that with will power and nicotine replacement. Sometimes, in my opinion, the harder job is to change the habit. Avoid cues that you associate with smoking, tell family/friends to help, pick a date, and get help and meds (eg. Varenicline) from your md.

Smoking Cessation : Hello. Check out smoking cessation programs at your local hospital. They usually include one on one assessment, group interactions, education about the process as well as support & medications. Quitting success rates tend to be much higher when you join a smoking cessation program compared to doing it without support. Auricular acupuncture can also be very helpful in reducing cravings.

Quitting smoking.: Cold turkey is the best way, but nicotine or cigarette tapering are viable options as well. For cold turkey, pick a quit day in advance, prepare for it, and go for it. http://www.amazon.com/Thats-Quit-Quitting-Smoking-Forever/dp/0595290469/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416278193&sr=8-1&keywords=giannone+i+quit
