Depends on your goal: As long as you are not the pilot, you should rest. Sleep masks, ear plugs & neck pillows can help with this. If you are time-shifting to adjust to a new time zone, either expose yourself to daylight & stay awake, or wear sunglasses or mask & sleep depending on the direction of travel. Some use melatonin but there is little evidence. Avoid alcohol. For long flights, make sure you stretch your legs.
