Types 1 and 2 : There are a few basic types of diabetes: type 1 which has a strong genetic disposition and is treated with insulin; type 2 which also has a genetic predisposition but often can be controlled with diet, exercise, and oral medications; and gestational diabetes which may be transient and only occur during pregnancy (but put mom at an increased risk of developing diabetes later). Symptoms very similar.
