A member asked:

Is it okay to use piriton just to make you sleep.?

Short term: Piriton (a uk brand of chlorpheniramine) is an antihistamine that causes drowsiness as a side effect. Benedryl is a common example of this same type of drug, which is used as a sleep aid (in "pm" forms of pain relievers, nyquil, etc). In the short term, they can provide occasional help sleeping but are not a long-term solution. Your doc can help if you can't sleep.

Yes: Occasional use of this antihistamine for sleep initiation is safe. Long-term use may lead to tolerance to sleep inducing effects.
