A member asked:

What is the best medicine to treat frequent heartburn?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

GERD: The best medicine is the one which works the best for you. Response to medication may be very individualized: what works best for someone else may not necessarily work well for you. Commonly used medications are zantac, (ranitidine) pepcid, Prilosec otc and prevacid. Persistent symptoms and/or those present for 4-5 years should be evaluated more thoroughly(see your md for possible referral to GI specialist).
