Humalog (insulin lispro) lasts ~4 hrs: Lantus (insulin glargine) is basal Insulin that works slowly over ~24 hrs to control fasting (non-meal) glucose. Humalog is fast-acting mealtime Insulin that works most action 1-2 hrs after dosing, to control after-meal glucose. If someone injects more Humalog than desired, they should check glucoses every ~30 min until humalog's action is over in ~4-5 hrs. How many carbs needs to be taken varies by each person.
