Many causes: There are many bacteria and viruses that cause pneumonia. Some fungi and parasites cause pneumonia as well. Common bacteria causing pneumonia include streptococcus pneumoniae, staphylococcus aureus, klebsiella pneumoniae and hemophilus pneumonae. Common viruses include influenza, respiratory syncytial and parainfluenza viruses.
