Gradual process: Childhood abuse may be longstanding, and committed by parents or others the child depends upon. Survivors adopt ways of getting through such experiences, and may continue these methods into the present. Recovery requires long-term psychotherapy in order to re-build the ability to trust others and self. Find a therapist who is worthy of your trust, and begin with small steps. These can grow.
