A member asked:

If noise caused permanent damage to the ears why does the ringing noise go away after just a few days?

This time...: Ringing in the ears after a noise exposure means you suffered a "threshold shift". This is usually something that could be measured with a hearing test. That is, if you had a hearing test before the exposure and even weeks after the exposure, you would see a drop in your hearing. Your ear may partially heal itself, hence the ringing going away. Some noise damage could cause permanent ringing.
