50-75% of max HR: Your maximum heart rate (hr) goes down with age and is generally figured by subtracting your age in years from 220. Your target hr for moderate to strenuous exercise is 50-75% of your maximum hr.

Depends on age: Formula for maximum heart rate is 220 - age. Determine goal then multiply that number by the percentage listed: maintain healthy heart 50% - 60% weight loss 60% - 70% aerobic increase endurance 70% - 80% conditioning muscle building, and athletic training 80% - 90% athletic training and endurance 90% - 100%.

It depends on age: Subtract your current age in years (36) from 220. First multiply the number you get by 0.6. This is your minimum target exercising heart rate. Now multiply the first number you got by 0.8. This is your maximum target heart rate. Stay inside that range when you exercise. 220-36=184; 184x0.6= 110; 84x0.8=147. Your "normal" heart rate for exercise is between those 2 numbers.
