What was the cause of the black death?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Plague: Yersinia pestis is the micro-organism that jumps from rats to humans and causes this deadly infection. The social causes had to do with crowding, and I'm told also to cats going out of fashion -- they're our friends as they kill off the rats that carry plague. Genetic archeology has identified the Yersinia subtypes causing each of the great plagues.
