Elephantiasis: Elephantiasis is the common name for filariasis, or infection by tropical parasitic larvae transmitted by mosquitoes. Filariasis is caused by nematodes (roundworms) that live in the lymphatics and subcutaneous tissues. There are at least 3 different species.
