May need longer: Things like food reactions can cause an allergic rash to appear & if so the stimulus for the rash will continue until the food is completely digested, possibly days. Benedryl would lessen the rash but not eliminate until the process stops. If the rash is the end point of some virus, as many are, benedryl is likely to do nothing at all & the rash will fade in a week or so.
