Several reasons: Calcium levels in blood are regulated by parathyroid hormone (pth). Some colon cancers make a substance similar to parathyroid hormone, which can increase calcium levels in the blood. Another possibility is that the cancer has spread to the bones, releasing calcium into the blood.
