What does rheumatoid arthritis in the hands look like?

Joint swelling: In the most classical presentation there is symmetrical swelling around the middle joints (pip) in the fingers and in the knuckles. The end joints, nearest the nails, are usually spared. It is also symmetrical in both hands. The areas between the joints are relatively normal. The swelling may be warm and there may be slight redness as well.
