Breast augmentation: Diabetes can impair wound healing, so you want to make sure your blood sugars are in the normal range both before and after surgery. The good news is that you are dealing with a small incision, but make sure you are medically cleared from your primary doctor before undergoing surgery.

SAFE w preparation: The risk of surgery is no greater for breast implants in diabetic individuals as any other procedure in a diabetic patient. The same concerns such as wound healing or infection are present and should be addressed. Tight control of the diabetes as well as close peri-operative monitoring of blood sugars with management guided by your physicians, surgeons, and anesthesiologist are advised.

Safe: If your blood sugars are well-controlled the risk of post-operative infection or poor healing is very low. You should consult your primary medical doctor to clear you before sugary and optimize your health. Any time an implant is placed in the body there are concerns of infection and healing. If you are not well-controlled and monitored, you risk of infection goes up.

Safe, if...: Assuming a diabetic patient has well-controlled glucoses long-term (and is otherwise healthy/good candidate), she should be able to undergo breast augmentation surgery without increased risk.
