Generally not to you: Unless there is a wound that is open present. Usually your immune system will take care of it. Wounds in the canal heal quickly. Now, for a baby that has passed through the vaginal canal, during birth, sepsis is more likely. Especially due to an organism called group b strep. We usually test mothers for this during pregnancy and at delivery. If positive, they are given antibiotics to protect baby.
