A member asked:

What can a crooked nasal septum or deviated septum cause?

Breathing problems: Most often, a deviated septum can lead to difficulty breathing though the nose, chronic infections, and cosmetic deformities of the nose. Septoplasty is a surgical procedure to straighten the nose and septum. A rhinoplasty involves fixing the external parts of the nose. See a plastic surgeon or ENT to see if septoplasty or rhiniplasty is right for you.

Deviated septum: Many people have a deviated septum without any symptoms and do not need surgery. However, septoplasty is indicated in patients with deviated septums and nasal obstruction not corrected with mediations. Occasionally, deviated septum may be associated with sinus infections, nosebleeds or, rarely, headaches.

Deviated septum: a deviated septum can be corrected surgically to bring the septum to the midline. If there are symptoms like nasal obstruction, snoring or recurrent sinusitis, have your nose evaluated by a board certified otolaryngologist.
