A member asked:

Are there pain medicines for arthritis that wont cause drowsiness?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Anti-inflammatories: Arthritis is best treated with anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, naproxen, ketoprofen, etc. None of them usually cause drowsiness to any great extent. Pain killers (opiate derivatives- codeine, hydrocodone, oxycodone) cause drowsiness and are not the best choice for arthritic pain as they only treat the pain, not the underlying cause- the inflammation. Be careful of stomach irritation.
