A member asked:

At what level of urine output is considered for catherization?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No specific level: Urinary catheterization is considered under two conditions: 1. Low urine output (less than 300 cc/day) and 2. Diffuculty voiding (for example in men with prostate issues). In both cases, lab work usually demonstrates evidence of kidney injury and the placement of a catheter may help distinguish the underlying cause.
